INTRODUCTION
The two-part video performance consists of two facing monitors, between which viewers move. Both videos show a portrait of the same person against a black background, wearing a white T-shirt. While the portrait on one monitor remains calm and largely unchanged, the face on the other shows visible signs of physical strain from the outset. It is flushed and appears swollen, its features tense. As the performance progresses, these signs become increasingly pronounced.
The cause of the visible strain remains concealed. Through the juxtaposition of the two monitors, the physical experience takes on an allegorical character that extends beyond the specific situation. Pressure thus addresses the ambivalence of human existence, which is also reflected in the inescapable confrontation with one’s own self.
