James George Smith Neill (1810-1857) Ayr/Scotland
Scottish military officer of the East India Company.
WHO ALSO played a leading role in the suppression of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. During the reprisals that followed, Neill became associated with particularly harsh and violent measures against rebel sepoys and Indian civilians, actions that made him one of the most controversial British officers of the uprising.
