'Das Lied der Deutschen' - eight versions of the German national anthem inspired by the children’s song ‘Drei Chinesen mit dem Kontrabass’ (Three Chinese with the double bass):
a, e, i, o, u, ä, ö, ü
The hand-driven stainless steel panels of the work 'Dogtags' combine the materiality of military dog tags with the text of the German national anthem.
Based on the nonsense text and the principle of the children's song 'Three Chinese with the double bass', which is spread throughout the German-speaking world, all vowels of the national anthem are exchanged in a playful way.
The work thus thematizes the untamed naivety of young soldiers for the fascination of military service and questions the sense with which states send their soldiers to war.
